Farm Day

Alright, alright, alright. Now that I’m feeling a bit more energy after having the plague and the flu in consecutive order, I’m ready to show you all how the garden is doing. Are we all ready for some color?

You’re also going to get a story.

Not too long ago, I woke one morning and after feeding the cats, I opened the front door and noticed people in my front yard, digging up my garden. 😲

I’m sure you all know, I was PISSED. My happy ass got dressed and walked outside to have a word with the fuckers messing up my flowers.

None of them spoke English, so I was wasting my fucking breath. Finally, one of the people gave me a card with an email address. I went inside and wrote an email.

I don’t have a lot of patience, but especially not when I’m angry. I walked back outside to kiki with my neighbors about what was happening. I wondered if they got any notice, and who those people were. No one got notice, but I was told that the company was working for AT&T.

To be clear, there is a 15 foot easement that the county can use in our front yard, but they have to give us notice so we can be prepared. You know, like being able to take out my flowers and putting them in pots so they wouldn’t get destroyed. These fuckers didn’t do that, they just started digging up my garden without notice.

Guess what I did? I called my County Commissioner. Oh yes, I was THAT woman, and happy to be the bitchy ass old lady who is upset over her flowers. I put a lot of work and money into this garden. What a kind man he is, I’m so glad I voted for him.

He had me send him pictures before and after the damage. Thankfully I had LOTS of before pictures. And, he send them off to AT&T and told me they’d get back to me to solve the issue.

It was not long before I heard from the “Office of the President of AT&T”. They were apologizing profusely, and asked for the details. I gave them all the details they asked for and I was told I would be hearing from them soon.

It took a little time, but eventually the company AT&T contracted to do the “work” of laying fiber cable came to my front door. They asked me how much it would cost me to replace the flowers they ruined.

The guy who came to my door said he had to call his boss, but he’d be back with a check after I told him the amount. He came back with that check. They gave me more than I asked for. 😁

And, that’s why you’re seeing so many new flowers in the front yard. Because your girl went to the plant rescue (nursery) to buy a whole shitload of native flowers to bring in more butterflies.

Moving to the backyard you’ll see that we still have tomatoes, despite the freeze we’ve been experiencing this week

For those who aren’t aware, I live in Zone 10A, in Central Florida. And this week has been the coldest it’s been in four years.

I’m over here wearing pants and a hoodie, and have lit fires every single night. The woman who never turns on her heat, turned that shit on because it’s so cold.

Green Pepper

The cats surround me every night in my bed. Trying to get out of bed in the morning is a task! These suckers have me pinned in, and I can hear Nick giggling as I yell “Let me up”.

Eventually, they do let me up, because of course they want to eat. And the “bringer of food” is me.

Generally, I’m doing okay, just still worn down from being sick for so long.

I did bring in the bananas and hung them in the garage, because I worried the freeze would ruin them. They’re tiny and still green, but they will be edible soon enough.

I hope you enjoyed this tour of our gardens and my little story. 🙂

Sometimes…it pays to be a “Karen”. Bwahahaha

Happy Saturday!

Sorry to hear that you’ve been sick! But happy that the front garden saga had a happy ending. Albeit an ending that involved the work of planting a bunch of new stuff (I know you enjoy that though).
Today I’ll be transitioning from the 80’s to single digits, I have sympathy for your cold mornings.

It’s still double digits here, but you know when you’re used to 80, 30 is downright brutal.

Unfortunately you’re going back to more than that, and you have my complete support and empathy.

You know they came by yesterday to ask me to switch to their service…I laughed at them.
