For our inaugural Caturday post on this blog, I’m going to start with what we call the “Cat Sanctuary”. We have an enclosed porch on the back of our house that leads out into the garden through a sliding glass door.
This large room is where we keep their food, their food bowls, some toys, and litter boxes on the opposite side of the room.

I have what I’d call a tier system of cats that I care for.
First are the two I originally rescued, Bonnie and Wonton. We call them “Queen and Princess” because they hang out in the “throne room” (Nick’s bedroom) most of the time. They’re not happy about the interlopers who showed up after Hurricane Ian.

I’m sure some may recall that we found a mother and her kittens after Ian hit Orlando, and we took them into our home and have raised them. They are what I call Tier 2. The interlopers or “peasants”. (Look, I love all my cats the same but it makes me giggle to have a made up caste system, mmkay? It is the little things that make my day.)
Tier three are the rest of the cats who are mostly feral but some friendly, they don’t stay in the house but do come into the sanctuary to eat. These are mainly comprised of a whole gaggle of cats that a neighbor just left when she moved out of her house, and a few others that I’m sure heard about the free food and just started showing up to eat. We call them, “The kingdom”.
The Queen and Princess can’t be bothered with the peasants and kingdom. However, the peasants and kingdom all get along fairly well. Sure, there’s some cat fights, but when you care for this many cats, how can you not?
In future posts, I will be introducing the cats one by one.
Happy Caturday from all of ours to all of yours!
