Wegovy Wednesday Wk 16

Let me start with an apology for skipping last week. My life has become much more complicated since I started working, and I’m still struggling to find a balance between home life, blogging, leisure, and work. It’s been years since I faced these kinds of time constraints.

That said, I did weigh in about a week and a half ago. My total weight loss since beginning this journey is thirty-three pounds. While many of my friends have expressed that they didn’t think I was that overweight, trust me, I was. Most of you have only seen me in highly curated pictures using flattering lighting, camera angles, and poses.

I want to be clear that I still don’t have a specific weight loss goal. There’s no magic number in my head that I’ve plucked out of thin air. My “stopping point” will be when my pulse oximetry, blood pressure, lab results, EKG, and stress tests all come back within normal range for my age without medication. I’m not there yet.

There have been no significant changes to my routine. I still eat a low-calorie, low-fat, high-protein diet consisting mostly of whole foods. I continue to take the lowest dose of Wegovy on the market and have no intentions of changing that. I see no reason to increase the dose and risk side effects when it’s working so well at the lowest dose, even after four months.

I also continue to work out four days a week, doing strength training for forty-five minutes per session.

I’m still experiencing no side effects from the medication, other than those I created by eating too much, too little, or the wrong things. It’s been a while since I made those kinds of mistakes.

Nick wanted me to announce that he’s now thrown away all of his candy and cookies. He still hasn’t experienced the same loss of cravings that I have, though. He’s doing this through his own willpower. I’m proud of him for taking charge of his health like this. He may still be eating some of the wrong things, but he’s taking positive steps towards better managing his diabetes.

To provide some context for Nick’s sudden decision to be more proactive, I want to ensure you don’t give me all the credit. While Nick has seen me change my lifestyle and constantly tells me how proud he is of me, the real reason he started caring so much about his diabetes is that he was diagnosed with glaucoma.

It’s still in the mild stages, but I believe the thought of losing his sight was a significant motivator for him to start caring about what he puts in his mouth.

According to the Glaucoma Research Foundation: “Glaucoma refers to a group of eye conditions that damage the optic nerve, often related to increased pressure within the eye. However, for unclear reasons, different optic nerves have varying susceptibility to damage from a given eye pressure.”

With all that said, taking Ozempic has completely stabilized Nick’s blood sugar for the first time since he was diagnosed. That’s an accomplishment worth celebrating.

Thanks for reading. Happy Wednesday!
