For those who aren’t aware, I have several herniated and bulging discs throughout my neck, upper, mid, and lower back, as well as sacroiliac joint disease. I have been dealing this for three years.

I can remember distinctly being told, lose weight and you’ll feel better.

My doctor, who I’ve been seeing since this all began, was on maternity leave since November. She was shocked to see how small I was when I saw her today.

Dr Z: How much did you lose?

Me 75 pounds

Dr Z: You are close to your “ideal weight”. Bet your back feels better.

Me: Not even a little

Dr Z: Oh, are you doing your physical therapy?

Me: Yes. But, as I suspected, my weight has nothing to do with my back pain.

She didn’t have much to say after that.

At what point does the medical establishment realize that losing weight will not solve all health problems?

Exactly. My doctor told me that I needed physical therapy from pain originating in c6 & c7. All that manipulation and “therapy” made it worse. Turned out I had a burst disc between those discs and needed surgery. It had taken them 10 years to figure that out! And 75lbs? That’s outstanding!

No exaggeration. I finally changed PC, got referred to a neurologist and got my surgery.

Sigh. Years ago, I told my doc I was winded climbing one flight stairs, which was not normal for me. He told me I need to lose weight. Mind you, I was only about 10 lbs over the so-called ‘ideal’ at the time. Turns out I was hypothyroid and that was causing me to become winded easily. 🙄

Sorry you had to go through that—doctors can be exhausting.

      Welcome!

Yeah, they love to blame everything on weight. It’s tiresome.

I’m sorry you had to deal with that!

Weight loss is their magic elixir and go-to panacea. I’ve had quite a few clueless doctor experiences, unfortunately. I’m very sorry for your medical trauma and pain. 🙏
