Farm Day

Many years ago, when I first started this series, I did it on Fridays. That became too rigid for me, often the garden doesn’t change a whole lot from week to week and I loathe showing showing the same plants again and again. However, it has been a while since you’ve all seen the garden and there’s lots to see.

Let’s start in the front yard, today. Next blog post will be the back.

One of our bananas have bloomed! As you can see, by December, we should have lots of bananas in our house, once again. For those who are unaware, bananas are actually an herb. They are not a tree.

Next up, I wanted to show you how my manhole cover decoration has been coming along. You can see there are lots of flowers to cover that unsightly mess. Buttercups, pentas, salvia, guara, and the Canna Lilies are doing their job and feeding the pollinators.

I’ve expanded the area out, and added some new flowers. Here are a red Hibiscus and Purple Mums.

So they wouldn’t be so lonely, I also got some Red Mums

Of course, I didn’t want the Red Hibiscus out there by itself, so I got a peach one to go with it.

Next up is red Dianthus barbatus, aka Sweet William

And, here we have a purple Michaelmas Daisy

Next up is our Plumbago blooming so stunningly in the Florida sunshine

The last of the flowers I wanted to show you is this Orange Firecracker, isn’t it awesome?

And, lastly, I’m going to show you our two Mulberry “bushes”.

And, here’s the new one I started growing this summer from a cutting of the old bush.

Thank you all for joining me on this tour of our front yard garden. Stay tuned for the backyard soon!!!!

Everything looks so colorful and amazing. I haven’t had time do really do anything here except clear off my porch to get ready for when they will finally be doing siding on the apartment building.

I had no idea what banana flowers looked like before seeing this post!
I used to have a Mulberry tree. Went out one day to mow and noticed lots of butterflies on the ground…and they were moving kind of strange. Walked over and looked at them. Little beasties were drunk! They were snacking on the fallen mulberries that had been on the ground for a while and were rotting. Fermenting. lol Drunk and staggering around. It was so funny!

It’s been a while since I had a banana bloom! I wasn’t even sure if I was going to get some this year. Last year, we lost so many due to storms.

Ha, how does that not surprise me. The little drunkards.

Pagan, if you come back to read this, go to my contact me form on this website. Nick and I are throwing a blogger bash in late January 2027. I want a way to get in touch!

What a glorious yard and flowers! I just love the flowers. They always make me smile, even in the darkest of days. I was talking with my pond guys a few days ago. D was telling me about a man here in Oklahoma with a banana ‘tree’. Said it was taller than him, so 6 ft tall ish. Told me the man cuts it down each fall and thickly covers the area with sawdust. Apparently, it comes back each spring and grows beautifully. I have no idea if it ever produces fruit. Now knowing it is actually an herb, the survival makes more sense.

Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful yard with us!!

    Hugs!!

      Hi Heidi!

Thank you, I’m glad my garden brings you such joy!

I have the dwarf bananas, I can’t imagine even having one of those small ones.

Bananas grow pups all the time. They grow from a rhizome 😉

        Hi Lunch!!

Your bananas are dwarfs? I am so intrigued. I need to study banana plants this winter.

Yes, look up dwarf Cavendish. They only grow to 4-5’ and the bananas are about half the size of a grocery store banana.

Your garden is beautiful. I had no idea that bananas were herbs! I see the small trees for sale at the big box stores, but I don’t have a place where I can over-winter them. Thanks for sharing!
